The cruiser remained there as the minutes passed. Then, just as the ambulance approached, it pulled away and followed Trent’s truck in the opposite direction.
The vehicle number was visible for several seconds beneath the streetlight.
It belonged to Deputy Brock Timmons.
Nobody in the room spoke.
