My Dad Made Me Pay $250 a Month to Stay Under His Roof — After His Funeral, His Best Friend Handed Me a Box and Said, “He Wanted You to Open This After He Was Gone”

He stayed beside me without saying much. When I finally calmed down, he quietly left, giving me time to go through the box alone.

That’s when I noticed something metallic beneath the vest.

A key.

Attached to it was a small tag with an address I’d never seen before.

I searched the box for a letter or an explanation, but there was nothing else. Whatever Dad wanted me to discover, he had left me to figure it out myself.

I grabbed my jacket and drove to the address.

It led me to the outskirts of town, past a row of warehouses and an abandoned gas station. The building looked almost deserted, except for a clean welcome mat beside the entrance.

I checked the tag again.

This was the place.

My fingers tightened around the key as I approached the door. For a moment, I wondered whether I was ready to discover another side of the man I’d spent years resenting.
