Terrified.
Focused on medicine schedules, insurance calls, Lily’s nightmares.
He had let it go.
Now he wished he had not.
Ethan looked at Lupita.
“Did you ever see Sarah here?”
Lupita nodded slowly.
“Once.”
Ethan’s breath caught.
“When?”
“Three years ago,” Lupita said. “Maybe a month before she passed. She came alone. She looked very thin, but she was kind. She asked me where old employee files were stored before the system went digital.”
Ethan’s voice dropped.
“What did you tell her?”
“Basement archive.”
Ethan turned toward the door.
Naomi blocked him.
“Ethan, wait. If Caleb Reed is involved, walking into a basement archive in the middle of the night is not smart.”
Ethan looked at her.
“I’m not going alone.”
Aaron stepped forward.
Lupita did too.
Ethan shook his head. “No.”
Lupita lifted her chin.
“I was invisible in this hotel for twelve years,” she said. “That means I know every hallway people use when they don’t want to be seen.”
